QUBD Sustainable design philosophies

At QUBD we believe that sustainable design is much more than just selected materials; we believe it is about producing stunning homes and places of work that naturally integrate the built form with the environment. Our designs will always make the best use of free natural resources whilst greatly reducing environmental impacts such as carbon emissions, embodied energy and water usage. Our key design philosophies for every project are:

Environment Conservation

We aim to reduce the impact of building on the environment by making common sense decisions about size and space, by specifying the right materials and the right building practices and by the use of low emission fittings and fixtures.

Affordability - Great Designs for any Budget

We have an in depth understanding of sustainability construction costs. By specifying size, materials, simplicity in design and other elements, we produce great designs for any budget. Our passive design elements and other sustainable inclusions will also significantly reduce all ongoing service costs of gas, water and electricity.

Functionality

We believe in the simple functionality of design to make living and occupation a pleasurable, easy and natural experience. We plan for well thought out decisions about spatial requirements together with basic passive solar design principles help your house perform efficiently.

Beauty

We aim to produce aesthetically stunning buildings that are great to look at and feel great to be in.

An Interaction and Experience with Nature

We aim for designs that enable an interaction with nature that provides a sensory design experience through the use of natural surrounding environment, planned function, design, angles, sight lines and products.

Health and Comfort

We believe in the importance of personal well being. By the use of natural non toxic products, free flowing air and the minimisation of artificial temperature control, we create a far healthier environment to live and work.

Passive Solar Principles

All our designs incorporate passive solar design elements. These include thermal mass, cross ventilation, solar heating, solar electricity and gas appliances. Site orientation is uniquely incorporated into every project, based on the axis of the sun, to provide natural cooling in summer and create natural warmth in winter.

Materials

We specify and integrate environmentally responsible materials that are sustainably certified, natural, recycled and require low embodied energy to produce.

Water Efficiency

We aim for the efficient use of water by specifying smart fixtures and fittings and connecting them to rain and storm water harvesting and supply as well as grey and waste water reuse systems where possible.

At QUBD we produce designs that promote sustainable practices for ours and generations to come.
